Hello, again! How’s about an awkward, slightly dizzying, video tour of the addition?
Such fun progress! Our contractor is officially done with his part – the rest is (mostly) up to us. After some inspections, we’re headed to drywall town.

Sweet, sweet progress. From this:

Things are moving so quickly. What our contractor originally estimated to take about ten weeks is nearly complete. When the doors, windows, and roof are complete – our contractor will be done with his portion of the project. Then it is up to us to complete the rest – I’ll include a to-do list toward the end of the post.
Here are some interior pictures – it’s difficult to visualize some of the partitions because the framing doesn’t come across as well in pictures as it does in person so I will do my best to explain what you’re looking at.
This is a picture looking back toward the original house (the light shining in the window is hung in our dining room). This nook will house the built-ins on either side. The little window to the left will go away (it’s the window that currently sits above our kitchen sink) and the dining room window will become an arched opening leading to this new space.
This space is the new living room – the photo was taken while standing in the new library area I just mentioned. The big opening on the back wall will house french doors that will open onto our new deck and the opening to the left will house a big, beautiful new window. To the right side of the interior wall running down the middle of the space is our new master bedroom.
This is a photo of the master bedroom space. Again – it’s difficult to get a good look what is happening here. The big opening on the back wall here will house another set of french doors. We are so excited about all the light that will flood into both new rooms. We are also getting SUPER excited about the living space that will be provided by the new deck (we are working on a few fun ideas for that space – we will share soon).
Here’s a glimpse facing west – the space that Adam is occupying is the master bath and the space to the right in the photo is our walk-in closet. So exciting.
So, in the next few days, the contractor and his team (we can’t say enough good things about Jason and Foothills Construction – since when does a contractor finish a job in half the time) will tear out the windows/door connecting the old space and the new space, tear down Ivy’s wall to install her closet, install doors and windows, finish the roof, and install the crawlspace opening. After their framing inspection, they will pack up and head out!
We have a company coming in to install siding early next week. That will button up the exterior (with the exception of the deck – we’ll get to that in a minute).
If Adam and I are able to plug away at the following list at a good pace – it’s likely that we’ll be ready to inhabit our new space in a little over a month <insert happy dancing>:
I might be forgetting a few minor details – but this is the big picture to-do list. It seems so close.
If you’ve taken on a project like this before, you’re probably familiar with the anxiety that comes with it – is this a good idea? Is it worth the trouble? At this point in our own project, we stand outside in the new space and we just giggle (yes, even Adam) with excitement. When walls go up and you can really get a feel for the space, you can see the finish line and that seems like the answer to all the aforementioned anxiety; this is a GREAT idea and it is so worth the trouble.

Our family caught a mean little stomach bug last week so I’m still working on a full update on the addition. Adam posted this snapshot on IG last week:
Needless to say, we just stare out the back windows and walk around out there, moving furniture in our minds.
Now, for the little update. We made some decisions regarding lighting in the master suite.
For the lighting above our vanity in the master bath, we pulled the trigger on this fixture that we’ve loved from the beginning:
Speaking of the vanity, you might remember that we intended to go this route:
But. After drooling over some of the following black and white bathrooms, we pulled a switch up.
We ordered this beauty from Amazon:
We are currently looking for the right brass hardware. With the white subway tile and the white hex tile (with dark grout), we think this piece will make a nice statement and still feel pretty classic.
My favorite item currently winging it’s way to our home is the light fixture we picked for the bedroom. We were considering this chandelier from West Elm:
When it came time to make the purchase, I hesitated because of the scale. I felt more comfortable looking for a fixture that was a little less dramatic yet still retained some of that mid-century charm.
Enter this guy.
On a whim, I checked out CB2’s offerings and spotted this flush-mount right away. I’m a little concerned with regard to the reviews about the globes being difficult to install but love the concept so much that I’m willing to give it a shot. Plus, I really like how this fixture will marry up with the bathroom fixture when they’re both in view.
That’s it for our little update. We will hopefully have a more comprehensive update on our sweet new space in a couple days.
